Every day when she walks in she's smiling, happy and joyful. Although she's sometimes in pain or tired, she decides to come anyway and even workouts she might not be able to do, Kathie Harris does with a smile on her face. ~Tyra, class instructor
What do you like best about Rainier Health & Fitness?
It’s close, it’s a very friendly place. It’s very welcoming. And I haven’t run into anybody who isn’t nice which is really a good thing.
What do you like best about SilverSneakers®?
The community, make new friends as well as trying to be as healthy as you can through exercise.
How long have you been coming here?
Well I started in January and then I took a couple months off because I was working with a contractor to develop a little apartment in my daughter’s home so I took a couple months off and then I started aback. And then I’m going to take a couple months off when I have my knee surgery.
What is your current exercise routine look like?
Well basically it’s here at Rainier Health & Fitness—the SilverSneakers® program—and I’ve been trying to walk and kind of irritated my knee. So I have to be a little bit more moderate on the walking. But Tuesdays and Thursdays. And this week I did it Monday AND Tuesday and so I’m going to go back to the Tuesday and Thursday and then come here Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
What’s your favorite way to be involved in the community?
Well I have been a volunteer at Group Health but most of my extra time goes to my grandchildren. I have a 9-year-old granddaughter and an almost 6-year-old grandson and it goes to them.
What’s your favorite healthy snack and a guilty pleasure.
Healthy snack is fruit. I like fruit. And guilty pleasure would be an ice-cream cone, a black walnut from Baskin Robins.
