You've probably seen her bright, smiling face at our front desk, watched her demonstrate how to properly use a rower or worked with her as a trainer. Jocelyn Shelby began with RHF as a volunteer then switched to an official staff and personal trainer. We're privileged to have a woman with her expertise and enthusiasm on our team. Welcome, Jocelyn!
What's your favorite thing about working at RHF?
Hands down, the people! (the friendly, diverse staff and members). Also, being able to provide a positive experience to members and making them feel successful so they can make exercise a consistent part of their lifestyle.
Tell us a little about how you came to be a trainer. When did you first become interested in health and fitness?
During college, I took several physical education courses that took me on a path to health and fitness. After graduation, I received certification with the American Council on Exercise and started work in the health and fitness industry.
What's the craziest thing you've ever done to stay fit?
I ran a ½ Marathon (1st race ever!) with minimum training.
Confession time: List your top 3 healthy snacks and admit a guilty pleasure.
1. Mixed Nuts (Cashews, Almonds, Pistachios, Pecans, Walnuts).
2. Plain nonfat Greek Yogurt w/applesauce, cinnamon and chia seeds.
3. Mini bell peppers w/hummus (pureed chickpeas).
Guilty pleasure: Homemade chocolate chip cookies (fresh out of the oven!).
Do you have any motivation tips for working out regularly?
Start with simple goals that make you feel good and challenge yourself by trying different activities. Choose something you enjoy because the more you do it, the easier it will become and you’ll be more likely to stick with a regular routine. Get plenty of sleep and fuel your body with healthy foods so your body will perform at it’s BEST.
